Karen Warren Coleman to take over as VP for Campus Life

Warren Coleman will leave her position as Associate Vice President for Campus Life to take Kimberly Goff-Crews’ place.

Karen Warren Coleman will succeed Kim Goff-Crews as Vice President for Campus Life, effective July 1.

University President Robert Zimmer announced the appointment via e-mail to campus students and staff on May 30, after a national search culminating in Warren Coleman’s shift from her current position as Associate Vice President for Campus Life and Associate Dean of Students.

In her new role, Warren Coleman will oversee 340 staff and many branches of the University involved in multicultural affairs, spiritual life, housing, dining, emergency response, and student activities, according to the News Office release.

Zimmer said that Warren Coleman has already had a significant effect on many aspects of University life since she was appointed in 2009.

“Karen has brought a strategic and thoughtful approach to forging partnerships across the University. She has overseen division-wide strategic initiatives, including a plan to expand undergraduate student housing and the global dining initiative,” he wrote in his e-mail.

Goff-Crews notified students of her departure via e-mail on January 5 after letting faculty know over winter break. She will be moving to an administrative position at Yale University, her alma mater.

“As Secretary [of Yale], I will support the University’s key governing bodies, assume responsibility for significant institutional issues and initiatives, and coordinate the University’s major public events,” she wrote in the e-mail. “The role of Vice President for Student Life is new to Yale; for the first time, an officer will represent student interests, and I will be able to use some of what I have learned from you to help shape that role.”

She also pointed out some of the progress made since she joined the University in 2007, including integration of wellness services, expansion of dining and housing options, and increased focus on post-college opportunities.

“I am grateful for my time here and all of you,” she added in her e-mail to students.
