The University of Chicago is ranked third for the third consecutive year in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report’s Best National Universities list. UChicago is tied with Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Yale University.
The University maintained its ranking despite an overhaul of the publication’s ranking formula, which increased the importance of measures of social mobility over those of admissions exclusivity.
Princeton University and Harvard University are ranked first and second, respectively. Stanford University, Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, and Northwestern University rounded out the top 10.
In a surprising move, U.S. News & World Report decided to refrain from considering admission rates in its ranking formula this year. It is also now considering graduation rates of Pell Grant recipients when computing the rankings.
