Candidates for the upcoming Student Government (SG) elections were confirmed at a meeting on Thursday at Cox Lounge in Stuart Hall. Students will vote on Blueprint from Monday, May 6, through 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8. SG Executive Slates are elected as groups of three candidates, each of whom runs for one of three positions: President, Vice President for Administration, and Vice President for Student Affairs. This year’s election features two competing slates: Reform and CARE (“Community, Amplify, Represent, Empower”).
The Reform slate is made up of second-year presidential candidate Kyle Shishkin, first-year Vice President for Administration candidate David Liang, and first-year Vice President for Student Affairs candidate Anya Wang. The CARE slate comprises third-years Jahne Brown, Kosi Achife, and Brittney Dorton, running for President, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Vice President for Administration, respectively.
To appear on the ballot for SG, slates needed to collect 300 signatures from the student body by Wednesday, April 17. The Reform slate began circulating their petition last Thursday, according to Reform Vice President for Student Administration candidate David Liang. The CARE slate did not officially declare their candidacy until Wednesday, but nevertheless managed to gather the 300 necessary signatures in a few hours.
Candidates running for Undergraduate Liaison to the Board of Trustees are Ridgley Knapp, Connor Jones, and Dinesh Das Gupta. The candidates for Graduate Liaison are Rohail Premjee and Cheryl Yu. Running for Liaison to Community and Government are Rachel Abrams and Natalie Wang.
Each class will also select a new College Council (CC), composed of four members per class; the class of 2023 will select their council upon their arrival on campus this fall. Elections are structured such that the four candidates with the most votes are elected. Elections with fewer than four candidates are uncontested.
The class of 2022 is the only class with a contested election for its council, with six candidates running for four seats. The candidates are Harry Gardner, John Kunzo III, Natalie Wang, Zebeeb Nuguse, Aazer Siddiqui, and Dinesh Das Gupta.
CC for the class of 2021 will be Tucker Rivera, Myles Hudson, Matthew Pinna, and Gage Bayless. The class of 2020 will be represented by Eugene Miravete, Mayuri Sharma, Matthew Petrak, and Samuel Joyce.
