Access to COVID-19 booster shots has expanded across Hyde Park since the FDA approved the rollout of booster doses this past summer. University and local residents who are eligible according to the latest CDC guidance—which now includes everyone aged 18 and older—have a variety of options including UChicago Medicine and local pharmacies for shots.
UChicago Medicine is offering booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine. According to their website, “Vaccines, including booster doses, are available at our various outpatient clinics at Hyde Park and Orland Park.”
Appointments can be scheduled through the University by calling (773) 834–8221. Those with MyChart accounts, including participants in surveillance and mandatory COVID-19 testing programs, may schedule online at any time. Furthermore, a booster shot may be requested at any regularly scheduled appointment with a UChicago Medicine clinician.
In addition to University-affiliated clinics, booster shots are widely available at local pharmacies and other non-University affiliated clinics. Walgreens is offering booster shots at their pharmacy at 1554 East 55th Street. Appointments can be scheduled online or by calling (773) 667–1177. For those looking for an option south of the main campus, Osco Drug—located inside the Jewel-Osco on 6014 South Cottage Grove Avenue—has an operational vaccine clinic. Appointments can be scheduled online or by calling (773) 358–4301.
A comprehensive list of vaccine clinics can be found by visiting vaccines.gov and entering a desired ZIP code, search radius, and vaccine type.
According to the CDC's latest guidance, everyone 18 years or older who received a dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine more than two months ago is eligible for a booster dose. Those 18 years or older who received one of the mRNA vaccines, Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, are eligible to receive a booster dose six months after their second shot.
Those who have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 can also book their first shots using any of the same resources.
