Lab Interim Director Ethan Bueno de Mesquita cited the University’s position on institutional neutrality as a reason for the change and denied any connection to the Lab Schools’ new viewpoint-neutral education principles.

A policy calling for “student-centered open inquiry” at Lab has sparked debate about the role of progressive politics in progressive education.

“Our commitment is to the well-being of our patients. Therefore, if there’s something that impedes our ability, it is our responsibility as physicians to advocate for our patient," said Jill Glick, a pediatrician and patient advocate at UChicago Medicine.
