This is a series the Maroon publishes summarizing instances of campus crime. Each week details a few notable crimes, in addition to keeping a running count from September 23. The focus is on crimes within the UCPD patrol area, which runs from East 37th to 65th Streets and South Cottage Grove to Lake Shore Drive.
Here are this week’s notables:
- October 24, East Rochdale Place between South Dorchester & Blackstone Avenues, 4:28 p.m.—Two males, one armed with a handgun, attempted to take an individual’s car. UCPD officers located the suspects as they attempted to flee, recovered the weapon, and arrested the suspects.
- October 25, 5550 South University Avenue (Henry Crown Field House)—Between 6:50 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., a man unaffiliated with the University tried to enter the property using a false name. UCPD officers arrested him and found two University combination locks in his possession. The suspect later admitted to stealing a cell phone from the building on October 12.
- October 26, 5100 South Blackstone Avenue, 2:28 p.m.—An unknown male smashed the window of a car parked on the street, took an iPhone, and fled on a bicycle. After a brief chase, UCPD officers arrested the man and charged him with felony burglary. The iPhone was recovered and returned to its owner.
- October 29, 5300 South Ellis Avenue, 11:35 p.m.—An individual walking on the sidewalk was approached by three males. One of them struck the individual and attempted to take a cell phone. UCPD officers arrested the suspects. The victim was not injured.
