An attempted armed robbery occurred Wednesday, October 4, on the 1100 block of East 59th Street, at 8:35 p.m. A 54-year-old man parked his car in the vicinity of 59th Street and South University Avenue, got out of his car, and started walking, when seven men approached him from behind. Two of these men displayed handguns and demanded the valuables of the victim. They struck him on the face, and left without any valuables.

Five minutes later (8:40 p.m.) that evening, at the corner of 59th Street and South Ellis Avenue, two men approached an 18-year-old. They asked him in a menacing manner if he had any change. Then one of the two offenders pulled out a handgun, telling the victim to empty his pockets, as a car drove by. The offenders, startled by the car, fled the scene without obtaining anything.

The same night at 9 p.m., a similar incident occurred at the same location of 59th Street and South Ellis Avenue. Two men approached an 18-year-old, and asked him if he had any spare change. When he said that he did not, one of the two men grabbed him by the arms and demanded, “Give us what you have.” The victim handed over his wallet, which had 40 dollars in cash, credit cards, and other miscellaneous items. The two strong-arm robbers then fled the scene.

Shortly thereafter, police were called, and given physical descriptions of the offenders from the victims in each incident. Eight individuals resembling the described offenders were brought in, but none were identified by the victims.
