A new Ph.D. program in computational and applied mathematics will be introduced this fall.
The program was developed by a committee of faculty in the statistics, computer science, mathematics, neurobiology, astronomy and astrophysics, and human genetics departments that was formed last year.
It will follow an undergraduate major in computational and applied mathematics that was created in 2014. It is part of a University-wide initiative to explore the intersection of big data and scientific research.
The Ph.D. program has accepted applications for its first class, which is expected to include five students.
