The Neubauer Collegium is hosting South African novelist and essayist J. M. Coetzee. A winner of the Nobel Prize and two Booker Prizes, Coetzee was a faculty member at the University’s Committee on Social Thought from 1998 to 2003.

Under the direction of Iraida Tapias, Water People Theater and the Laboratory Schools are presenting dramatic adaptations of works by 20th century Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca, including Blood Wedding and Yerma. The performances will be in Spanish with English subtitles.

Author of the Booker prize–winning The English Patient, Michael Ondaatje will debut and discuss his new novel Warlight, a post-WWII mystery, followed by a Q&A and signing session.

Takács Quartet

UChicago Presents will bring the popular Takács string quartet with their Hungarian-influenced sound to campus this Friday. Following a pre-concert talk with music professor Steven Rings, the group will perform three masterpieces: Haydn’s String Quartet in D Major, Op. 20, No. 4, Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 4 in D Major, and Brahms’s String Quartet in A minor, Op. 51, No. 2.
