An armed robbery occurred at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 on the 5400-block of South Cornell Avenue in the rear alley. A man was confronted by another man with a knife who requested money. The offender then went into the victim’s trouser pocket, took the victim’s wallet, which contained about $100 in cash, and fled on foot. The victim stated that he had seen the offender going through garbage cans in nearby alleys. The offender was described as a black man, about 45 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a dark complexion and a slim build.
Later that same day at 6:45 p.m., a University police officer was driving through the intersection of 52nd Street and Ingleside Avenue when his squad car was struck by another vehicle. Upon impact, three men exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Responding police officers searched the area and apprehended the 15-year-old driver of the vehicle. Upon further investigation, the police discovered that the vehicle, which was a 1992 maroon Dodge Caravan, had been stolen. The driver was arrested and charged with auto theft and the accident.
