Moda show to hit runway Friday night

Moda will be holding a trunk show in Hutchinson Commons tonight, November 18, from 7-10 p.m. A student-run fashion organization, Moda is bringing professional and student designers together for the night with the intent of making fashion accessible and interactive.

“We want to enable all students to experience creativity through fashion,” said Adelle McElveen, Moda president and a fourth-year in the College.

Among the professionals will be representatives from MAC, Sole Lounge, Double Stitch, Salon Blonde, and Custom Dress. They will present a range of products from cosmetics to shoes. Double Stitch will be showing their crocheted items, and Sole Lounge, a South Side business, will be presenting their latest shoe designs. Student designers will also be selling their own jewelry creations and accessories. Organizers hope the event will bring high-end fashion to the Hyde Park area and make it accessible to the campus community.

Moda will also be holding a walk-off, in which students are encouraged to strut their stuff down the runway with props donated by campus groups, including University Theatre, Samahan, and Rhythmic Bodies in Motion. The winner, to be decided by the audience, will be awarded a MAC goody-bag.

“We see fashion and creativity in more than one way, and we’re really excited about getting a lot of students involved,” McElveen said.

There will be a signup to participate in the walk-off in the Reynolds Club on Friday from 12-4 p.m. Moda will also raffle one $120 certificate to Salon Blonde, three 10 percent discounts at the same salon, and a featured spot in their winter magazine photo shoot.
