Tracking ICE Activity in Hyde Park
ICE began a crackdown on illegal immigration in Chicago, called “Operation Midway Blitz,” last month. The Department of Homeland Security says federal agents have arrested more than 1,500 people in Illinois in the weeks since, CBS News reported.
Federal agents briefly detained a UChicago international student on October 15, per University communications. Since then, immigration authorities have detained at least three other individuals in the Hyde Park area, according to the Hyde Park Herald and information shared with the Maroon.
The Maroon is tracking ICE sightings in the Hyde Park, Woodlawn, and Kenwood neighborhoods on an interactive map. Viewers can hover over markers to see information about when federal agents have been sighted and how the Maroon verified the sighting.
To submit a report of ICE activity, please contact the Maroon at editor@chicagomaroon.com or submit a tip through the tip form. If you would prefer to use Signal, the Maroon can be reached at nrodwellsimon.50. The Maroon protects source information, and your name and contact information will only be seen by the paper’s editors.
