Robert Fagles has a new translation of the Aeneid out. I’m not a classics major (although there are times I definitely wish I was) but Fagles’ translation of the Iliad is gorgeous. I’ll probably buy this when it comes out and then have it collect dust until Christmas break.Update: Apparently I missed the boat on this, a NY Times article on it is already the #1 most emailed.Update: It is worth noting that it is really refreshing to see Fagles, Virgil, and classic literature getting so much press. Also, that people are so receptive to that press (I’m basing this conclusion the NY Times articles ranking). I always see silly columns about Macaroni and Cheese recipes and marriage advice rocket to the top of most emailed lists on prominent news sites. Finally something substantive.
