One of the four system boards that support the back end of the Plaisance mail server went down Thursday at about 3:06 p.m., according to Bob Bartlett, director of Networking Services and Information Technology (NSIT) Voice and Data Networking. Bartlett said that the boards store the mail for the domain uchicago.edu. He said that once failure occurs the system automatically double-checks the rest of the hardware.
Bartlett went on to say that the board would be replaced Thursday night, but that until then the system would be running on three-quarters capacity. The system was to be brought down from midnight to 4 a.m., according to the NSIT announcements website. That website can be accessed by clicking on the NSIT stoplight symbol at www.uchicago.edu.
