Ribs ’n’ Bibs closes unexpectedly

As of Monday morning, the Hyde Park barbecue restaurant Ribs ’n’ Bibs, located at 5300 South Dorchester Avenue, has closed for business.

The management of Ribs ’n’ Bibs could not be reached for comment.

The windows, which normally display racks of ribs being smoked, are now covered with pieces of paper from the interior that prevent pedestrians from looking in. A plain white sign is taped above the front door which reads, “Closed Until Further Notice.”

An employee of Hyde Park Records, two stores down from Ribs ’n’ Bibs, who declined to state his name, said that he spoke with the owner of Ribs ’n’ Bibs on Sunday evening—the night before the restaurant closed—but that he was unaware that the restaurant was going to close the next day.

“I had a conversation with the owner [of Ribs ’n’ Bibs] that night, but he did not bother to tell me that he was closing shop. The next day, I saw the ‘Closed Until Further Notice’ sign go up, and that was that,” the employee said.

I was born and raised in Chicago. Haven’t been home in years. I had no idea that Ribs and Bibs was closed down. Will there ever be another Ribs and Bibs opening?? We need one here in Columbus Ohio.
