Antonia Clifford, a third-year majoring in Latin American Studies with a minor in Gender Studies, has been chosen as a 2009 Truman Scholar. Clifford was chosen as one of 65 recipients of the $30,000 scholarship from over 600 nominees nationwide. For a public policy proposal required for the scholarship, Clifford wrote about teen suicide prevention and mental health awareness at the high school level, focused on her home state of New Mexico.

“Antonia has shown strong leadership on campus and off, and I am confident she will be a powerful force for change in the future. She is most deserving of this scholarship,” said Dean of Students Susan Art.
