Orin Kerr is discussing the legal issues of a student baking ex-Lax cookies and giving them to the teacher, I’m just enjoying the story that has lead to the assault charges:

This is the old revenge-for-a-bad-grade-by-giving-the-teacher-Ex-Lax-cookies trick. The teacher gave a junior high student a bad grade, and the student wanted revenge. The student’s mother wanted revenge, too. Mom helped her daughter bake cookies containing a lot of the laxative Ex-Lax, even showing her daughter how to crush the pills and add them to the batter. The daughter then left the cookies on the teacher’s desk with a note, “We made these cookies just for you, hope you enjoy them.” The teacher shared the cookies with students in the class instead of eating them herself, and four of the students became ill.Here’s the question: Under Maine criminal law, what is the criminal liability of the mother for helping her daughter bake the cookies? The prosecutor’s answer, at least in this case: The mother has been charged with misdemeanor assault.

I don’t know what’s cooler, the story, or the fact that people study this sort of thing.
