Men’s tennis to face Carthage in NCAAs
Men’s tennis is set to receive a pleasant surprise.
The Maroons (18-9) will be seeded third in their regional grouping when NCAA tournament seeds are announced today, and will face second-seeded Carthage (19-5) in the first round Saturday. The winner of this meet will face off on May 8 against the winner of the other Saturday matchup between top-seed Gustavus Adolphus (26-4) and Coe (23-8).
The seed is slightly higher than coaches were expecting. The team is also buoyed at the prospect of facing Carthage. Though the Maroons lost to the Redmen 6-1 at home March 12, Carthage dropped a 4-3 decision to Washington University April 1. Chicago beat the Bears 4-3 April 17 to clinch third-place standing in the UAAs, suggesting a possible upset in the making.
All matches will be held on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minnesota. The nationally fifth-ranked home team Gusties are expected to win the regional and move on to the third round.
