Crime Report: November 3, 2006

October 27—U of C Police Department (UCPD) officers arrested six men who followed and attacked a 21-year-old man on the 1400 block of East 55th Street at 4:50 p.m. The attackers followed the victim and struck him to the ground. UCPD officers aided the victim and took four of the offenders into custody. Two attackers ran from the scene but were apprehended later. The suspects have been charged with strong-arm robbery.

October 31—Two men, 24 and 31, were walking on the 5400 block of South Cornell Avenue at 1:55 a.m. when two other men approached them, demanded money, and struck them. The offenders took $600 from the first victim and $50 from the second victim, then fled north on Cornell Avenue. Paramedics treated both victims on the scene.

October 31—A 19-year-old man robbed a 16-year-old boy at 1:45 p.m. on the 5200 block of South Harper Avenue. After demanding money and engaging in a scuffle, the attacker punched the victim in the face and left the scene. The victim saw the offender again later that day and called police, who apprehended and charged the man with strong-arm robbery.

October 31—A fight broke out between a group of eight women and teenager at 4:30 p.m. on the 5100 block of South Cornell Avenue. The 16-year-old female victim’s purse was stolen during the fight; she reported to police that she knew some of the offenders by name.
