Sexism on campus
Last week on the A-level of the Regenstein, I overheard a loud conversation by a number of fraternity members in which they made disgustingly derogatory remarks about women, which I care not to repeat. I was deeply offended by what they said and am amazed that anyone at this school would be so backwards and rude as to not only think these things, but to say them within earshot of others. The sad thing is that these sorts of incidents are not often taken seriously. After hearing remarks like this once, it’s easy to pass them off as jokes or stupidity, but once you’ve heard them many times, the problem begins to take on a different character. Sexism is not funny. People who choose to make these comments should know that what they say is not falling upon deaf ears.
