Tuesday [10/16] 

“Funding Feminism” Book Talk 

Seminary Co-Op, 6 p.m., free

Hear historian Joan Marie Johnson speak about her book Funding Feminism: Monied Women, Philanthropy, and the Women’s Movement, 1870–1967, and her pertinent research into the roots of class tension within the women’s movement. 

Wednesday [10/17]  

UChicago Arts Bazaar 

UChicago Quad, 11:30 a.m., free

Take a break from academics to learn all about the many arts opportunities that the University has to offer. Staff from the Logan Center, Smart Museum, Oriental Institute, Court Theater, and UChicago Presents, along with representatives from the Art Institute of Chicago, Harris Theater, and the Chicago Humanities Festival, will be on the quad with information on how you can get involved in the arts scene!

Talk with “Serial” Host Sarah Koenig 

Logan Center, 6:30–8 p.m., free

If you are anything like the over 300 million people who have downloaded her podcast, then get excited to hear the famous voice of Sarah Koenig, co-creator of Peabody award-winning podcast Serial, as she joins author and faculty member Rachel DeWoskin in conversation this Thursday.

Logan Bluesfest 

Logan Center 

With everything from concerts, to food, to workshops, the second annual Logan Bluesfest promises to be a weekend of all-things blues. Catch legends including Chris Thomas King and Jerron "Blind Boy" Paxton on Friday, or any of the numerous other artists throughout the weekend.  

Saturday [10/20] 

Humanities Day 

Various Locations, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

In a day packed with lectures, tours, and conversations, there is something for everyone at this annual celebration of humanities research. Topics at this year’s Humanities Day include minimalism, Putin, and how operas are created.  

Unfinished Business! The South Side and Chicago Art 

Logan Center, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., free

Northwestern University, Columbia College Chicago, and the University of Chicago collaborated to put together this must-see symposium about the history of the South Side as a community and a vibrant arts scene.  

Newberry Consort Shakespeare Skits  

International House, 8 p.m., $5 for students

Experience comedy in an Elizabethan fashion with the Newberry Consort’s Shakespearean “jigs”—joyous, musical skits that are sure to brighten up your evening!
