This weekend, the last game of the season for the UChicago football team occurred on a frigid afternoon at Stagg against Lake Forest College. The Maroons came into the game on a three-game winning streak as well as winning six of the last seven games after a tight victory in Minnesota versus Macalester College. Though the weather was freezing for the early noon kickoff, the Maroons came out hot and ready to play. The first play of the game established the tone for the rest of the game with a 32-yard screen gain. This drive, with a clutch third and 22-yard conversion, ended in a touchdown for the Maroons and gave them an early lead with just over two minutes into the contest. A quick three-and-out forced by the Maroon defense, with the Bears unable to get anything going, allowed for a quick chance to extend the lead. On the next drive for the Maroons, they drove to midfield and it appeared they had not made the third down conversion, but a face-mask penalty allowed for the drive to continue. UChicago took full advantage and third-year wide receiver, Dante Nepa, caught a jump ball touchdown to put the Maroons up 14–0. Lake Forest College then proceeded to shoot themselves in the foot by fumbling the ensuing kickoff to gift the Maroons a short field to extend their early lead. Third-year quarterback, Marco Cobian, proceeded to pounce on this opportunity with a nine-yard scramble to put UChicago up 21–0 not even 10 minutes into the game. Could Lake Forest get anything going on their next drive to even attempt a comeback after the early punch in the mouth by the Maroons? The answer was no, as the Maroons forced the Bears to punt again. In response, the offense methodically drove down the field and extended the lead to 28–0 early in the 2nd quarter. The Bears never really challenged the Maroons in this game as after this early start, UChicago was able to come away as 48–16 winners against Lake Forest College.  

The Maroons ended the season with the record of 7–3, which is extremely impressive considering the 0–2 start to the season. The 2018 UChicago football team broke the modern-era record (since 1969) for most points in a season as well as the fewest points allowed in a season that only emphasizes the complete nature of this season’s football team. This dominant performance was a great way to honor the 14 fourth-years on this football team for Senior Day. As third-year cornerback Roberto Rabines, who ended the season with an interception to become the interception leader on the team, put it, “The game felt a lot closer than it really was just because they were talking so much, but it was a comfortable win and a great way to send our seniors off.”
