UChicago is transforming the Institute of Molecular Engineering into a graduate school of molecular engineering, the University announced on Tuesday.

• The new school, established with donation totaling $100 million from the Pritzker Foundation, will be the country’s first school dedicated to molecular engineering and UChicago’s first professional school to open in three decades.
• The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering will establish a new partnership with City Colleges of Chicago that will consist of college counseling and research opportunities designed to extend its resources to STEM-interested students in City Colleges.

Student Government (SG) Assembly last week passed the 2019–20 academic year budget and several bills.

• The newly passed Minutes with Increased Clarity Act requires the secretary to record all SG meetings, in order to increase the accuracy of SG minutes and to help media to more accurately report on SG.
• Another newly passed bill urges the administration to form an academic department for the Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies major.
• A bill which would have modified SG bylaws to prevent SG from paying members without a referendum was rejected by over 60 percent of voting representatives.

A report by Chapin Hall, the University’s independent policy research center, has led Governor J.B. Pritzker to call for an “overhaul” of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

• Pritzker called for the review following death of two-year-olds Ja’hir Gibbons and Ta’Naja Barnes. Investigations of the children’s deaths revealed possible misconduct and lack of oversight within the department.
• The report found ambiguity in the role of Department of Child Protection investigators, who are often “inundated with caseload pressures.”

Quevos, a startup founded by a UChicago student who dropped out to pursue the project full-time, will expand its retail distribution this summer.

• The company sells chips made from egg whites and was co-founded by Nick Hamburger, who won the 2018 College New Venture Challenge for the concept.
