Opening Reception: The Allure of Matter at the Smart
Smart Museum and Wrightwood 659, 3–7 p.m., free.
On exhibit simultaneously at the Smart and Wrightwood 659, this colossal collection shows off the works of Chinese contemporary artists. Using the very ordinary materials of gunpowder, iron nails, and everything in between, this opening and overall exhibition is certainly not something to miss. Light food and refreshments served at the Smart.

From Beethoven’s Prometheus overture to Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance, this concert features near-quaint interpretations of classical music.
Doc Films, 4–6 p.m., $7.
Support Outside the Lines with a special feature of Loving Vincent. An oil-painted film, animated with over 60,000 frames, the award-winning experimental drama explores the tragedy of Van Gogh’s death and the drawbacks of his artistic genius.

A24 x FEF x Doc Films Present: Oscars Viewing Party 2020

The moment we film-fanatics have been waiting for…or not. A collaboration between Fire Escape Films, Doc Films, and A24, be prepared to be utterly right or devastatingly wrong about the winners of each Oscar category. Exasperated as to why The Lighthouse received barely any nominations? And how did Joker get those 11 nominations, again? Why?* Light refreshments and dessert served.
