Crime Report: May 25, 2007

May 23, approximately 10 p.m.— A female victim was attacked on the 1100 block of East 58th Street by an 18-year-old man who threw her to the ground and robbed her of her purse and cell phone. The offender fled but was quickly located hiding in bushes by University police officers who were in the area. He was in possession of the woman’s property. Antoine Jennings was arrested and charged with two counts of strong-arm robbery after he later admitted to committing a robbery the night before on the 5700 block of South Woodlawn Avenue.

May 22, approximately 7:20 p.m.— A strong-arm robbery occurred on the 900 block of East 55th Street. A University police officer observed a suspicious male walking along the street pulling on door handles of parked vehicles. The officer kept him under surveillance until he opened an unlocked door. When confronted by officers, the suspect attempted to flee but was taken into custody, whereupon officers discovered that the man had a large amount of coins in his pants pockets. The officers located the owner of the vehicle that the suspect entered and the owner reported the theft of $15 in quarters. Phillip Washington, 33, was charged with the felony crime of burglary of an automobile.
