Crime Report

Two robberies reported; police apprehend enraged man

A man was robbed last Friday while walking alone at 4:30 a.m. on 59th Street. The offender, also a man, approached the victim. The offender, who brandished a small firearm, demanded the victim’s wallet. After the victim gave his wallet to the offender, the offender ordered the victim to run east. The offender subsequently fled south.

The victim described the offender as a black male, 28 years old, 6’2″ tall, 200 lbs., of medium build, and medium complexion. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray pants.

There was a robbery of a residence on the 5800 block of Blackstone the same day, between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

While the occupant was absent, the culprit entered the house by breaking a window in the back door and reaching through to operate the lock. The burglar took only a black leather coat. He remains at large.

A University Police officer noticed a suspicious individual in the vicinity of the new skating rink on the Midway on Saturday at 5:45 a.m.

As the officer approached to investigate the situation further, the offender lunged at him and a scuffle ensued. When backup arrived, the police were able to subdue the offender, who was reportedly yelling, screaming, and fighting in a desperate and irrational manner.

The police brought the individual to St. Bernard hospital for mental evaluation.
