Crime Report: 5.8.09

This week’s Hyde Park crime

May 5, 2:00 a.m.A gun-wielding man wearing a breathing mask on the 4700 block between South Cottage Grove and South Drexel Avenues struck a man in the face and fled with the victim’s keys and wallet in a four-door gray Buick LeSabre. May 5, 8:55 a.m.A woman walking on the 4900 block of South Ellis Avenue was approached by a male who ordered her to place her purse inside a gym bag he was carrying.May 6, 7:45 a.m.A male youth walking on the 6200 block of South University Avenue was approached by two individuals, one of which was armed with a handgun. The offender ordered the victim to surrender his iPod.May 6, 12:55 p.m.An 18-year-old male was wounded in the leg during a drive-by shooting while standing on the sidewalk between the 6100 and 6200 blocks of South Kimbark Avenue. Shots were allegedly fired from a passing silver or gray Ford Explorer. May 7, 12:48 a.m.A 21-year-old man walking down the 5400 block of South Woodlawn Avenue was robbed by an armed man. Once the offender obtained the property, he instructed the victim to turn and walk away. The offender is described as black, of medium build, 6’0”, and wearing a dark brown sweat shirt and dark pants.
