Man, the Canadians always do it better (except, of course, when it comes to hockey, where no one can beat famous dedication Orange County has shown to hockey over the years). In an attempt to increase funding for the arts Canadian novelist Yann Martel is sending a book every month to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. This Tribune article is critical of the idea, but I like it. It is a very simple and benign gesture to send someone a book with the hope that they read it and in doing this Martel is drumming up attention for her cause and also drumming up attention for great literature. That’s a win-win if I’ve ever heard of one.Of course, there is no reason for Martel to do this with George Bush. He read like a 100 books just last month. They felt like sand.
