Chicago has changed its plans for its bid for the 2016 summer Olympics. Instead of having the main stadium be Soldier Field and a second temporary stadium, the city has decided that the new main stadium would be in Washington Park, which shares a western border with Hyde Park (Washington Park starts as soon as leave the western end of the U of C campus). It is still in such a prelimary stage that it would be silly to start thinking about the impact this would have on Hyde Park and the U of C, but still. There hasn’t been anything this big in the Hyde Park area since the 1893 Worlds Fair.
The Olympics in Hyde Park? Essentially.
