Kinky Friedman for Texas gov?

The New York Post last week ran a great interview with Kinky Friedman, the eccentric, Jewish, Bob Dylan-esque rock star running for Governor of Texas. He seems to actually have a shot at winning. I can’t really take him seriously as an elected official, but he nearly won me over with these gems:”Musicians can run this state better than politicians. We won’t get a hell of a lot done in the morning, but we’ll work late, we’ll work hard, and we’ll be honest.”Q: Why did you start writing novels?A: Desperation. I was doing quite a bit of Peruvian marching powder at the time, really struggling with my demons and not saving any money. It was a very tough time for the Kinkster.Kinky also wants to appoint Willie Nelson as head of Texas’s energy commission. Along with the ridiculousness, he also had one or two true insights, including this one which was my favorite:”There is a difference between me and the other people running, and I think it’s the difference between a politician and a statesman. A politician is looking at the next election–a statesman is looking at the next generation.”Here, here.
