November 17, 2006
It was hard to ignore Chicago athletes this past weekend, as three Maroons turned heads in the league to capture UAA athlete of the week honors in their sports.
In his final effort wearing the maroon and white, fourth-year quarterback Matt Rinklin threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for two more in Chicago’s 44–12 rout of Eureka College Saturday.
Rinklin went 14–27 on the day for 187 yards on his way to his second UAA acknowledgement of the year and the third of his career.
Also taking his second award of the fall, fourth-year Brian Hague earned the nod after qualifying for the NCAAs at the Midwest Regionals Saturday. Running the course in 25:02, Hague finished ninth and also claimed All-Midwest Region honors.
Wrapping up Chicago’s big week, first-year L.T. Switzer made a big hit for wrestling in his collegiate debut. The rookie won two of his three bouts at the Northwestern Duals Saturday, pinning his DI opponent from the Wildcats and taking a 4–3 decision over his Cornell (IA) foe.
