Second-year Pat Hogan took top individual honors and helped lead the University of Chicago men’s cross country team to a first-place finish at the Carthage College Invitational on Saturday. Hogan posted a time of 27:45 on the 8K course to lead all collegiate runners.
This weekend’s meet was a small one for Chicago, and most of the runners did not participate, opting instead to gear up for next week’s meet, the UW-Parkside Invite in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
First-year Brian Hague was the collegiate runner-up with a time of 28:26, and fellow first-year Dan Dickinson placed fifth with 28:45.
First-years Marc Roualet and Kellen Alexander rounded out the Maroons five scoring runners, placing sixth and eighth respectively with times of 28:51 and 29:13.
Chicago won the event with 22 points, while second-place St. Mary’s University totaled 54 points, an impressive showing for Chicago considering that coach Chris Hall held out the Maroons’ top eight finishers from the Loyola Lakefront Invitational.
Second-year Amy Lopez was the Maroons’ top individual finisher in the women’s race, placing 12th with a time of 25:27 on the 6K course.
Second-year Sarah Eldridge placed 19th with a time of 26:15 and was followed by first-years Jenny Fisher, 21st; Emily Sayer, 23rd; and Kim Song, 27th.
The women’s team, which also held out its top eight runners from the Loyola meet, finished fourth place overall, accumulated 102 points. Host Carthage won the event with 20 points.
