Continuing their strong early-season starts, men’s and women’s swimming each earned a pair of convincing wins against regional foes Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan invite. Taking on the hosts as well as Principia, the men 87–18 and 84–28, while the women won 76–36 and 84–29. Both squads remained undefeated on the season as they continued to flatten the competition in solid preparation for this weekend’s Maroon Invite.

With a rare dominating performance from the platform, the Maroons took first in all four diving events. Fourth-year Ashley Bourne won the one meter and three meter dives, while third-year Paul Accardi took care of business with a pair of firsts for the men.

In the swimming events, the women relied once more on their young nucleus, with all four victories coming from first and second-years. Second-year Sarah Law was first in line in the 50 freestyle (26:35), while first-years Kathie Ang, Alicia Bushman, and Cassie O’Neill earned victories in the 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke, and the 200 IM.

Teaming up in the 400-yard relay medley, Laws and the freshman trio outpaced the runners-up from Illinois Wesleyan by over 15 seconds, while the 400 freestyle relay team cruised to victory with a time of 4:01.36.

On the men’s side, the steady influx of talented swimmers to Hyde Park has resulted in a more balanced squad. Saturday’s competition was no different, as athletes from each class earned first-place finishes. Leading the way, fourth-years Pat Seatstedt and James Viccaro captured first in the 200 breaststroke and 50 freestyle. Third-years Zach Ergish and Chris Whaley, and second-year Alex Stabell all pulled out victories, in the 200 IM, 200 butterfly, and 100 free, while first-year Brian Young capped things off with a top finish in the 200 backstroke.
