The May 9 headline, “U of C Site Vies for New Particle Accelerator,” incorrectly referred to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) as being a part of the University. Though the Enrico Fermi Institute is an academic unit of the University, the Fermilab is separate.
The article also misquoted University physics professor Mark Oreglia in claiming that he said a new particle accelerator is needed to save American physics as “standard Washington boilerplate.”
The Maroon regrets and apologizes for the errors.
