News in Brief

Several University organizations will hold a press conference Thursday at the Federal Building at 3:30 p.m. on the corner of Adams and Dearborn, and then participate in a rally on the Federal Plaza.

Action Toward Peace (ATP), and the University of Chicago chapters of the American Civil Liberties Union and Amnesty International will protest the abuse of Iraqis by American soldiers.

A petition with over 500 signatures collected from faculty and students at the University will also be presented to Illinois Senators Richard Durbin and Peter Fitzgerald at the press conference. Students and staff still have the opportunity to sign the petition at the flagpole on the main quadrangles, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day this week up to Thursday, May 20.
