Calvert House

In the Chicago Maroon story on Calvert House and the resignation of Father Michael Yakaitis, your reporter states that “David Clohessy, national director of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) noted that this is not the first time [Cardinal] George [of Chicago] has violated the U.S. bishops guidelines on abuse” (“Calvert House Priest Resigns Following Sexual Allegations,” 2/11/05). That statement is false and inaccurate. Cardinal George did not, nor has he ever violated the guidelines. The situation with Yakaitis did involve conduct inappropriate for a priest, and Cardinal George did express his regret for appointing him to the position at Calvert House.

However, the accuser in this situation was of majority age
