Organ Donation

RE: “Finally, an approach to organ donation better than complete apathy” (4/4/2006).

You wrote that you weren’t sure what to think about the morality of the LifeSharers incentive structure or of directed donations.

LifeSharers creates an incentive for people to donate their organs when they die. We do that by giving members an increased chance of getting a transplant if they ever need one to live. The incentive created by LifeSharers increases the number of organ donors, and that saves lives. Saving lives is clearly a good thing.

As for morality of directed donations, ask yourself if it would be moral to deny people the right to decide who gets their organs. The question answers itself.
